PRINTJAM

Wernher Bouwens - Christian Gfeller & Anna Hellsgård - Lennart Grau - Thomas Siemon - Édouard Wolton

Printjam is a collective experience in which the printed image becomes a space for encounter, dialogue, and transformation. Born from a shared desire to move beyond individual practices, the project brings together artists with singular visual languages around a common process: creating together, in the real time of the studio.

At the origin of each encouter lies a collection of personal matrices, conceived as autonomous starting points. But very quickly, these forms leave their initial status to enter a collective game. Layered, fragmented, and recomposed, they become the living material of a shared visual language in constant evolution.

Within this working space, improvisation plays a central role. Each intervention responds to another, an adjustment, a risk taken. The presses are no longer simple tools of reproduction, but instruments of immediate creation, where the image is shaped in the instant of the gesture.

The “Jamprints” that result from this process are unique works, born from an intense and collaborative dynamic. They carry the traces of exchanges, tensions, agreements, and accidents that mark their making. None are identical; each reflects a specific moment in the dialogue between the artists.

Printjam thus explores the limits and possibilities of contemporary printmaking. By crossing practices and blending aesthetics, the project questions the notion of authorship and redefines the place of individuality within a collective framework.

The book also plays an essential role in this approach. Conceived from the same matrices, it extends the experimentation into the field of publishing. Each copy becomes a variation in itself, a singular object within a series.

The exhibition “Printjam 4” in Supalife, offers an immersion into an open artistic process, where creation is nourished by exchange and unpredictability. More than a set of works, it is a dynamic, a collective energy in motion.

Printjam affirms the vitality of printmaking here and today by reinventing it as a space of collaboration, experimentation, and freedom.
