„Printing is something for trained monkeys", somebody once said.
The artist Daniel Mecklenburg, aka Monkey, lives and works in Berlin. Coming from a graffiti background he started printing in 1999. Currently he is teaching screenprinting at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee where he graduated. His body of work has gone through various phases and styles. Formerly his works had been typographic and figurative. In his recent series Monkey‘s been working mainly abstract. In this works he is experimenting intensively with analog techniques. The prints and the templates are strictly handmade, leaving the spectator wondering how this might been done.
